Feeling exhausted by another team’s session? Click on your diary to see days of back-to-back “virtual meetings”. The training session…...logging on to see pages of faces of anticipation - can today be a "video off" kind of day, and if you do what does that say about you?
And then there are exercise classes (I keep trying but it is not working for me) and family catch-ups, friends quiz nights, wine tasting……... it is a never-ending virtual world and Standford researchers have produced a report looking at just this.
Prompted by the recent boom in videoconferencing, Professor Jeremy Bailenson, of the Stanford Virtual Human Interaction Lab (VHIL), examined the psychological consequences of spending hours per day on video platforms and has gone on to define four causes of zoom fatigue. Check it out here.
I don't know about you, but I certainly agree that "Seeing yourself during video chats constantly in real-time is fatiguing" I hear you, I always felt this being sat in the hairdresser’s chair, how self- critical you become when you see yourself more and whilst team’s offer’s a decent filter some days some things can’t be fixed!
Seeing how things have and can adapt is positive but we have A LOT of screen time. This piece of research offers us advice and tips on how to help avoid zoom fatigue.
