As we approach the New Year, most people start reflecting on their careers and what it really is they want to achieve in the next 12 months.
In 2023, the most popular reasons for my candidates to move were reward, progression, recognition and flexibility.
I anticipate that these will keep being the main drivers in 2024 – if you are unsure on whether it is time to move or not, here are my top tips on how to try and achieve this at your workplace.
Reward: Whether this is a bonus or a pay rise, it is important to be realistic and have conversations with your line manager to put a plan in place on how this can be achieved.
Progression: If you are looking for a step up, it is equally important to have open discussions with your manager about where you want to be in the next 12 months, and what steps you can take to get that deserved promotion. Maybe it is time to get a development plan in place – get your manager’s input on it!
Feedback and recognition: It is always good to have constructive feedback in order to support your development and growth. Recognition is key for your personal development and well-being, so make sure you are being recognised for your work.
Flexibility / WFH: Due to various reasons, you may want to have the option to WFH and or have flexibility on your working hours – Do you get the option at your workplace? Having transparent chats with HR and your manager is a must when it comes to what can be accommodated internally.
These conversations are hard but are a must-have when it comes to your own personal development and future achievements.
