Looking at the speed recruitment has changed in the last 18 months, we’ve noticed that temporary staff make up a growing percentage of Jersey’s local workforce and will often add real value to our clients in busy or challenging times. This year especially, we have seen a huge increase in the demand for temp roles in lots of different sectors, from financial services, construction, charity and even retail. There has never been a better time to be a temp.
Our clients like to take on temporary staff as they often bring a new perspective to the role, and we have seen quite a few of our temps being kept on permanently, almost a try before you buy scenario, on both sides. It also means that when money is tight, clients can control their budgets without increasing their permanent headcount, if the temp is a good fit then they can approach the head office for a permanent contract for them.
I know from personal experience back in the early 90’s what it’s like to be a temp as I have been there and done it! I personally loved it but it definitely takes a lot of courage to temp; you’re basically going into a role pretty much blind and taking on whatever is given to you. Because of this the team here at Park feel that our temps deserve to be recognised for the additional support they provide to a business. We recognise that they don’t get all the “perks” that come with being a permanent member of staff but they are still as important. In order to recognise their hard work, we invite our clients to nominate which of their temps they feel has gone above and beyond and want them to be put forward for Park Temp 2022.
