It’s that time of year where we see many of our clients recruiting for their graduate training programmes or taking on school leavers to develop within their business.
National research from AGR (Associate of Graduate Recruiters) shows that whilst the graduate recruitment marketplace remains tough there are certainly pockets of growth!
It is a busy and enjoyable time of year for Gemma, our trainee and graduate recruiter at Park, who has the responsibility of interviewing and supporting all our young job seekers through the different recruitment processes on the market.
Competition is tough! We have seen an increase in both the amount of job seekers and our clients’ criteria so it is really important to make sure that you shine through the process.
Stephen Isherwood, the new Chief Executive of the AGR advises "Be competitive and strategic in your approach to applications – and keep persevering. Bear in mind that undertaking work experience, whether gained through an internship or part-time work, can be invaluable".
We can’t reinforce this message enough! Those candidates who have work experience, whatever it may be, have a wealth of examples and experience to draw upon and use to demonstrate their skills and competencies during the interview process.
Gemma’s’ top tips for the recruitment process are all about preparation!
"Be Prepared - this starts with research – both the company and any professional qualifications that they offer and why that would be of interest to you personally and what you wish to achieve. Also ensuring you can demonstrate flexibility - be willing and committed to each company’s process this can range from online assessments, Audition Days, Presentations and possibly 3 interview stages!"
