Get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?

I am sure, like me, you have all experienced "having one of those days" .........you wake up late after missing the alarm, you hunt through the wardrobe and realise you have not ironed the top you wanted to wear, you go to make a cuppa and there is no milk left, start walking to work and realise you have forgotten your phone ....... from a bad start is seems like the whole day is working against you!

Then there are the fabulous days.....you get up earlier, get yourself to the gym or go for that run before work, have more time to look your best, buy the healthy breakfast on the way to work, open your email to a positive result and again the day seems to follow the course on which it started……

Well I have just read an interesting article on the CMI, Chartered Management Institute web site, which presents new research on the effect of starting the day off negatively and how it impacts on the way the rest of the day unfolds!

The researchers found that if you start off in a bad mood then your mood tends to get blacker and blacker as the day progresses, with a knock on effect on your engagement with colleagues and customers. "We saw that employees could get into these negative spirals where they started the day in a bad mood and just got worse over the course of the day," the researchers said. A positive attitude at the start of the day led to a positive attitude throughout the day. Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, the mood of an employee was found to influence how they perceived interactions between them and other people. Miserable people were pessimistic about things, positive people were optimistic. Management Today offers five tips to get the day starting well click here for inspiration!
