We at Park have been in the recruitment and hiring industry in Jersey for 40 years and following on from our recent event we want to challenge some common misconceptions that were bought up from job seekers who were perhaps unsure of how a recruitment agency works or even if they would be able to register.
What are the benefits of me using a recruitment agency?/ Why should I use an agency?
Finding a job through a recruitment agency has a lot of advantages.
Firstly, they’ll often have built up good relationships with a lot of top employers, giving you exclusive access to their jobs. You’ll also get put forward for positions that you wouldn’t otherwise have heard about.
Other benefits of using a recruitment agency include:
-
CV and cover letter advice
-
Expert interview coaching
-
Constructive feedback from each interview and employer
-
Specialist advice for your chosen field
-
Being put forward for any relevant roles that come up
- First to hear about any new roles!
Misconception #1: How much do I have to pay?
It’s FREE
Registering your details as a candidate with an agency won’t cost you a penny so why wouldn’t you?
Misconception #2: I have never worked in finance before, so I won’t be considered!
So if you’re currently lacking experience in the field you’re looking for work in, transferable skills can be a great way to highlight why you’re right for the role, regardless of previous experience. And the best part? Everyone has them!
Although slightly softer skills than those directly related to a position, transferable skills are incredibly valuable to employers.
Not only do they show that you’d be a good fit for the team, they can also demonstrate what a candidate can bring to a role, and how much they’ve learnt from previous positions or experiences.
So if you’re currently lacking experience in the field you’re looking for work in, transferable skills can be a great way to highlight why you’re right for the role.
Misconception #3: I am too old to find a new job.
You’ve got more than a decade (maybe two or three, gulp) of work experience under your belt. You’ve developed a valuable skill set, a deep network of VIP contacts and a solid track record that others in your field would envy.
So why are you so afraid to look for a new job?
Maybe you think employers will consider you too old or too expensive, or you’re worried the grass will be browner elsewhere.
But unless you’ve got retirement in your five-year plan—and hey, even if you do—you deserve to be fulfilled in your work life till then.
Misconception #4: I don’t have enough time to register whilst on my lunchbreak.
We work around you! If you are short for time and don’t have time to pop into the office to formally register that is completely fine! It’s 2019 and technology allows us to work remotely offering you the best service that suits you and your needs!
If you are worried about being seen coming to our office, we are also happy to meet at a neutral location.
Here at Park we have online registration forms and everything is accessible via email or phone.
Misconception #5: I don’t have a CV?
