Thinking of asking for a pay-rise?

Thinking of asking for a pay-rise? Whether you’ve been in your role for a while or are looking to step up in a new job, asking for a pay rise takes confidence, but it’s also about how you go about asking. Here’s how…

The first step is knowing your worth. Take a moment to reflect on your achievements over the past year. Have you met or exceeded targets? Taken on extra responsibilities? Delivered key projects? You need to be ready to showcase your value when the time comes to ask for a pay rise. Make sure you can clearly demonstrate how your work has positively impacted your team and the company. If you have any positive feedback from clients or colleagues, this is the time to show off! 😉

Next, do your research on salary benchmarks for your role/industry. You can search online, talk to friends in similar roles, or talk to a Recruiter. This will help you set a realistic expectation and show you’re informed about industry standards. (what not to do is get an offer somewhere else and hope for your employer to counteroffer with a higher salary!).

When it comes to timing, make sure you ask at the right moment. Ideally, you want to bring it up after a job well done or during your performance review. Asking at the RIGHT time is KEY

When you do have the conversation, highlight how your role has evolved, and your contributions have grown. If you’ve taken on more responsibility or developed new skills, point those out. Be prepared to discuss your accomplishments and how they align with your company’s goals.

Important to say, be open to negotiation... if they can’t offer you the figure you have in mind or they can’t give you the raise you’re asking for immediately, ask what you can do to work towards that goal, and what date can this next be reviewed.
